Hypertension and the Spinning® Program

According to the American Heart Association, hypertension (high blood pressure) currently affects about 73 million Americans over the age of 20. What makes this so scary? High blood pressure is a major contributing factor to heart attacks and strokes, which kill nearly 800,000 Americans each year. Even scarier—many people don’t even know they have it.

Hypertension isn’t something a person can feel, and it’s not something we as Spinning instructors can see as we scan the faces of our students. Therefore, we must take into consideration that approximately 30% of our participants are afflicted with high blood pressure. Hey Sweat Enthusiasts

I just wanted guide you on a few things regarding the schedule.  Any information posted on our blog (the first page to open when you visit our site) is typically up to date, current information.  If you click older posts , they more than likely will no longer apply.  If your looking for an up to date schedule you must click on the calender to view.  We use the blog to post schedule changes, promotions, fitness tips, new instructors etc.  If you have any questions please never hesitate to email us at Sweatfit2010@yahoo.com or call us at 781-596-0544.  Regarding the schedule we have made some changes to our Tues/Wed TRX/spin  classes.  We cancelled those  and moved them to tues evening at 5:30pm (spin) & 6:30pm (TRX)

Are full-service gyms a thing of the past?

A recent article in The New York Times suggests that more people are dropping their memberships to b ig health clubs in favor of pay-as-you-go classes at specialty studios.

“These days, “loyalty has dropped dramatically,” said Casey Conrad, a consultant with 25 years in the fitness industry. One reason: A decade ago, full-service gyms didn’t offer today’s “unbundled” memberships that let consumers choose what perks to pay for. Some fitness seekers have been trying an à la carte approach, taking specialized pay-as-you-go classes like those offered by the stationary-cycling competitors Flywheel Sports and SoulCycle, or Core Fusion at the Exhale Spa, rather than committing to a gym membership.”

Some of the biggest reasons for this trend seems to come down to cost, keeping your workouts varied, and sharing the camaraderie of group classes (getting that extra incentive to work hard)! Full article can be read here.
